There’s plenty of information on the STAT (Society of Teachers of The Alexander Technique) website, so if you want to read articles about the Technique, find out who Alexander was, or find how it might help you, then click on the STAT link, or for answers to frequently asked questions, click on FAQ's below.
We do have a list of recommended reading. Unfortunately there are some terrible books on the Alexander Technique, as well as some good ones, so if you do want to read about it before having lessons (and we strongly recommend that you do), then the following are the best books to go for.

As children we all have good use, but it is rarely seen in adults |
BODY
LEARNING ~ Michael Gelb.
We
think this is the best
introduction to the Alexander Technique ~ particularly well illustrated and
informative. ALEXANDER
TECHNIQUE
~ Chris Stevens.
A
good general introduction THE ALEXANDER PRINCIPLE ~ Dr. Wilfred Barlow. If you are interested in some of the medical and physiological aspects of the Technique, The Alexander Principle is an informative book, written by a doctor who was trained by Alexander himself.
THE USE OF THE SELF ~
F.M. Alexander
For
more adventurous readers, Alexander’s third book, written in the
nineteen thirties gives a thorough account of how he discovered his
Technique, and some of the principles involved. Not an easy read, but well
worth it.
THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: A Skill for Life
~Pedro de Alcantara.
This is an excellent title, which manages to be a good read, whilst giving an in-depth explanation of the Technique, and is highly recommended. The
last two books on the list are best suited to pupils who have had some
lessons. If you would like our views on a particular book, please ask. You can buy any of the recommended books by clicking the link below
